Coach, Nutrition Coach

What is your Done Done Story?

I was a Done Done Member way back in the early days and I loved the facility, coaches, trainers, members, atmosphere, etc. During that time I mostly only participated in the metabolic workouts and would avoid strength days like the plague. I ended up leaving Done Done for a few years but really struggled to find consistency with my workout routines even though I had access to another gym and a full in-home gym. At the same time I was beginning to understand the benefits of strength conditioning but just could not implement it on my own. Missy invited me to try a DEKA class in March of 2023 and I knew I was "home" and was immediately hooked. I signed up for Semi-private training and nutrition coaching immediately. I learned so much about myself and I've finally found consistency in my workout routine.

What made you want to become a coach?

My why is generational. I never struggled with weight growing up until I found myself a mom at the age of 18. Prior to that I was an athlete and never received much information about nutrition, much less fueling for performance. In the beginning, I wasn’t happy with my weight but I was so young and athletic prior to  that so everyone around me kept saying that I would “bounce back”. Two years had gone by and I had still not bounced back. This was my first introduction to a diet. I started with the South Beach diet which was a dominant fad at the time. This began my now 20 year health and fitness journey. I’ve learned so much along the way about nutrition, fueling for performance, and learning that there’s more to being healthy than the number on the scale.

Now I’m a mom of 3 kids, two boys and a girl, all of which are athletes. It’s important to me that they know how to fuel themselves for competition so they can have the stamina required for their events. It’s also important to me that they understand how to build a balanced plate to get all the micro and macro nutrients they need to support their growing bodies, gut health, hormone health, etc. Most importantly, I never want my children to reach a point where they hate their body while they try fad diet after fad diet chasing a number that might not even be realistic for them.

A few years ago I lost my paternal grandmother. She lived in TX and had dementia. Because I only saw her a few times per year, my last few visits with her she remembered me less and less. I’ll never forget going to visit her for her 80th birthday. I brought a chocolate cake to her nursing home. This was the first time she didn’t remember who I was at all. But she knew she LOVED chocolate. To my surprise, she also knew she shouldn’t eat it because it would “make her fat”. I’ll never forget how sad I was for her in that moment. She had lived such an amazing, full life. She traveled the world. Won many tennis trophies. Shared so much laughter with friends and family. And here she was, slowly forgetting all of these beautiful memories but she didn’t forget that she shouldn’t eat one of her favorite foods.

It was around this same time that I started to learn more about diet culture and the grip it has on society, specifically women. It wasn’t long after this I began my journey as a health coach. I want to be part of this wave of change that I see. I want to help women, particularly moms, ditch the scale and finally take control of their nutrition to start to FEEL better again. I want to help women fuel their bodies to lift heavy things, run fast, and thrive heading into perimenopause and menopause. I want to help moms show their daughters there is so much more to life than being “small”.
